Fully automatic Pixel Shift shooting
- Pixel Shift with focus shift or AE bracketing
Pixel-shift photography can now be combined with focus-shift shooting or AE bracketing without the need for external accessories. Discover more in our Z8 firmware 3.0 video. - Automatically create new folders for each sequence
File management during pixel-shift shooting gets a whole lot easier thanks to new folder options. - Self-timer mode
You’ll be able to switch from standard settings to pixel-shift shooting even if using the Self-timer. - AWB lock from the first frame
White balance can be locked at the first shot when [Auto] or [Natural light auto] is selected.
New in-body focus limiter for greater accuracy
Enhance your success rate by determining the minimum and maximum focus distances that work for your subject. Simply select the near and far points to prevent the camera from focusing on unwanted foreground or background objects—or from hunting to acquire focus.

The continuous LED modelling light of the Profoto A10 can be used as an AF-assist illuminator—it auto adjusts for brightness and it’s powerful enough to illuminate the entire frame.1
New shooting functions
- Bursts of 15 fps with Pre-Release Capture
Bursts of 15 fps [C15] are now possible when using Pre-Release Capture within High-Speed Frame Capture+.
- JPEG Fine available at any shooting speed
For higher-quality stills, you’ll be able to set image quality to JPEG Fine at any of the camera’s continuous shooting speeds.
- Presets for high-frequency flicker reduction
New presets help reduce flicker when shooting near signage or lighting that use high-frequency LEDs. Simply choose a frequency and select a corresponding shutter speed.
- 400 % magnification for precision manual focusing
Shooting a scene that demands critical focus? A new live-view magnification option of 400 % has been added to [Zoom on/off] within the custom settings menu.
Workflow enhancements
- More flexible image playback
New custom settings and display options let you jump to source image, filter based on date, auto-rotate images, and more.
- Convert to HEIF when exporting to FTP server
RAW/JPEG images are converted to the HEIF format at your chosen compression ratio and uploaded directly to an FTP server.2
- Use an external microphone for voice notes
Upgrade your Z8 firmware and you’ll be able to record clear voice memos using wired or wireless external microphones.
- Smoother video workflows
Tonal characteristics for N-log View Assist have been updated to better match the RED Technical LUT. New metadata fields enable better integration with Final Cut Pro.
- Support for Flexible Colour Picture Control
